BBC Investigation Uncovers Widespread AI Misuse on Social Platforms
A BBC investigation has revealed that dozens of accounts across TikTok and Instagram were using AI-generated avatars — many depicting sexualized Black women — to promote explicit content, raising serious questions about platform moderation, racial targeting, and the unchecked spread of synthetic media.
The investigation found that these accounts used artificial intelligence to create realistic-looking video personas, which were then used to lure users toward explicit or adult content hosted elsewhere.
