Ottawa's Canada Day festivities came to an abrupt end Wednesday evening after Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 8:02 p.m., forcing organizers to cancel the highly anticipated fireworks display and evening performances on Parliament Hill.
The warning stated that meteorologists were "tracking a dangerous thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts and extremely heavy rain" — conditions that made it unsafe to keep large crowds gathered outdoors along the riverfront and on the Hill.
What Got Cancelled
The evening programming, which typically draws tens of thousands of Ottawans and tourists to the downtown core, was called off as the storm moved in.
