Ottawa hockey fans have plenty to talk about this offseason, and it's not just about the Senators.
Ottawa's PWHL franchise, the Charge, may be on the verge of a significant move — swapping their current home at TD Place for Canadian Tire Centre, the Senators' barn out in Kanata. And layered on top of that potential arena shift is a tantalizing roster rumour: could Dara Greig be heading to the nation's capital?
The CTC Buzz
Right now, nothing is confirmed. The PWHL, the Ottawa Charge organization, the Ottawa Senators, and the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) — which owns TD Place — have all stayed tight-lipped about any potential deal to relocate the team.
But the speculation isn't coming from nowhere. Moving to CTC would be a notable step up for the Charge, both in terms of ice quality and capacity. Canadian Tire Centre seats over 18,000, compared to TD Place's roughly 9,500 for hockey. If the Charge are aiming to grow their fanbase and capitalize on momentum from the PWHL's breakout first two seasons, a bigger building with more resources could make a lot of sense.
It would also create a genuine co-tenancy with the Senators under one roof — something that's worked well for PWHL teams that share arenas with their NHL counterparts in other markets.
A Greig Connection?
Then there's the Dara Greig piece. Greig is a skilled forward who would be a meaningful addition to any PWHL roster, and the Ottawa Citizen report links her name to what could be a deal with the Charge. If she were to sign, it could be especially interesting given the broader Senators family connection — her brother Ridly Greig plays centre for Ottawa's NHL club.
A sibling duo playing under the same roof at CTC? That's the kind of storyline that writes itself, and it would give the Charge a compelling hook for drawing in fans who already follow the Sens.
Why This Matters for Ottawa Hockey
The PWHL has been one of the best sports stories in Canada over the past two years. Attendance records, passionate fanbases, and genuinely high-level hockey have made it a legitimate draw — not a novelty. Ottawa's team has been building its identity, and this offseason could define what the Charge look like for years to come.
If the CTC move does happen, the Charge would have access to better facilities, more visibility, and the kind of infrastructure that could help them compete off the ice as much as on it. Shared marketing, cross-promotional opportunities with the Senators, and a unified hockey experience in Ottawa's west end are all part of the upside.
Wait and See
For now, Charge fans will have to be patient. Summer is typically when PWHL roster moves and arena decisions get sorted out, and this situation seems to be moving along quietly behind the scenes.
But if you hear a rumble coming from Kanata — it might not just be the Senators getting ready for training camp.
