Ottawa Fringe is back, and this year's festival is the biggest in its 30-year history. Running June 12–22 across venues in the arts district, the 2026 edition features 70 productions, up from 58 last year, and introduces three new performance spaces, including a converted warehouse near Lansdowne that's been drawing buzz for months.
What Is Ottawa Fringe?
For the uninitiated: Fringe is a lottery-based, uncurated theatre festival where any artist who enters the lottery and pays the fee gets a slot. No committee decides what's good or what fits the mandate. It's pure creative democracy. The result is a mix of polished touring productions, local debuts, experimental solo shows, and the occasional beautiful disaster.
That unpredictability is the whole point.
This Year's Highlights
While the full program is too large to summarize here, a few shows have already generated early buzz. A solo performance piece by an Ottawa poet about her grandmother's immigration from Lebanon is drawing comparisons to the best of the spoken-word circuit. A locally-produced comedy about working in a government department (naturally) is already sold out for its first three performances.
International visitors this year include companies from Edinburgh, Melbourne, and New York, all of whom apply to Ottawa Fringe's international lottery.

Individual show tickets are $13–$16. A Fringe button ($5) is required for entry to most shows and funds the festival's artist pool. You can buy at the door or at ottawafringe.com. The festival's central hub, a patio with food trucks and a bar, is at Arts Court on Daly Avenue, and it's free to enter.

With 70 shows, you'll want a strategy. The Fringe website has a full schedule with show lengths, themes, and content warnings. For first-timers, the Thursday-opening rush is chaotic but thrilling. For veterans, the final weekend is when the gems reveal themselves.
