Ottawa and its across-the-river neighbour Gatineau were shaken this month after a residential shooting left a home in the Bellevue district riddled with bullet holes — and now four people are facing serious criminal charges as a result.
Gatineau police confirmed that officers responded to a call reporting that a residence in the Bellevue area had been struck by gunshots multiple times. The attack appears to have been targeted, and investigators worked quickly to identify suspects in the days that followed.
Four Suspects Charged
Authorities have since laid attempted murder charges against four individuals in connection with the shooting. The identities of the accused have not been publicly released at this stage of the investigation.
Gatineau police have not disclosed whether any victims were injured during the incident, or whether the occupants of the home were present at the time of the attack. The investigation remains active.
A Cross-River Concern for the National Capital Region
While the shooting took place on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, incidents like this resonate deeply across the National Capital Region. Ottawa and Gatineau share tight social and economic ties — many residents cross the river daily for work, school, and family — meaning serious crime in one city rarely feels distant to the other.
The Bellevue district, located in Gatineau's Hull sector, is a mixed residential neighbourhood not far from the river and within easy reach of downtown Ottawa. Gun violence in the area is relatively rare, making this incident particularly alarming for local residents.
Authorities Urging Calm
Gatineau police have not indicated that there is any ongoing threat to the broader public, suggesting the shooting was an isolated, targeted event rather than a random act of violence. Still, the sight of a bullet-scarred home in a residential neighbourhood is understandably unsettling for anyone living nearby.
Residents in the National Capital Region with information about the incident are encouraged to contact Gatineau police directly.
