Ottawa is surrounded by wilderness, but most of us drive right past one of the best wildlife experiences in the region without even knowing it.
Omega Park (Parc Oméga), located in Montebello, Quebec, is about a 90-minute drive from Ottawa and might just be the most rewarding day trip in the National Capital Region. A video shared on Ottawa social media this week reignited the question that local parents ask every spring: have you been to Omega Park?

What Is Omega Park?
Omega Park is a drive-through and walk-through wildlife experience spread across 1,500 acres of forested Quebec countryside. It's home to more than 20 species of animals native to Canada, including white-tailed deer, elk, bison, wolves, black bears, foxes, wild boars, and the majestic woodland caribou.
The park is most famous for the deer that actually come to your car window. You buy a bag of carrots at the gate, and as you drive slowly through the park, the deer, and sometimes elk, will stroll right up to your vehicle. It's one of those experiences that makes kids (and adults) completely lose their minds in the best way possible.
Planning Your Visit
Omega Park is open year-round, though spring and fall tend to offer the best wildlife activity. Animals are most active in cooler temperatures, and the park's forested trails are spectacular when the leaves are changing.
The park offers both a driving tour (the main draw) and several walking trails where you can see wolves, bears, and lynx in large natural enclosures. There's also a farm area with domesticated animals, perfect for younger kids.
Getting there: Take Highway 50 west from Gatineau toward Lachute, then turn north on Route 323 toward Montebello. The park is at 399 Route 323 Nord.
Tickets: Adult admission is around $30, with discounts for children and seniors. Buy online in advance during busy seasons.
An Ottawa Weekend Tradition Worth Reviving
Omega Park has been a staple of Ottawa-area family outings for decades, but it tends to fall off the radar for newcomers or those who haven't been since childhood. With spring arriving and cabin fever at a peak after another Ottawa winter, it's the perfect time to put it back on the list.
Pack a lunch, bring the carrots, and give yourself a few hours to slow down and experience what Quebec's Outaouais countryside has to offer.
