O-Train Lines 2 & 4 Shutting Down This Weekend for Maintenance

Ottawa transit riders should plan ahead this weekend as O-Train Lines 2 and 4 will be completely offline June 13–14 for scheduled maintenance. Replacement buses will cover both the north-south corridor and the airport spur during the two-day closure.

Ottawa O-Train Going Dark This Weekend

Ottawa commuters and weekend travellers will need to adjust their plans as OC Transpo shuts down two O-Train lines for a full two-day maintenance window. Lines 2 and 4 will be out of service this Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14 — and if you're heading to or from the airport, that means no train.

The closures affect the north-south Line 2 corridor as well as the Line 4 airport spur, which connects downtown Ottawa to the Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport. Both lines will be completely offline for the duration of the weekend.

What's Actually Happening

OC Transpo hasn't released a detailed breakdown of the specific maintenance work being carried out, but scheduled closures like this are standard practice for light rail systems that need to perform track inspections, switch maintenance, and systems checks that can't safely happen while trains are running.

The timing — a mid-June weekend — likely reflects a window chosen to minimize disruption to the typical weekday commuter rush while still getting necessary upkeep done before the busier summer months.

Replacement Buses Are Running

The good news: OC Transpo will run replacement bus service along both affected lines for the entire closure window. If you need to travel the Line 2 north-south corridor or reach the airport via transit this weekend, buses will be picking up the slack.

That said, bus replacements typically add significant travel time compared to the train, especially during peak periods. If you're catching a flight Sunday morning, give yourself extra buffer — at least 30 to 45 minutes beyond what you'd normally allow.

Tips for Getting Around

Here's how to navigate the weekend with minimal headaches:

  • Check the OC Transpo trip planner before heading out — it should automatically route you via replacement buses when you select Line 2 or 4 stops.
  • Airport travellers: Book a cab or rideshare if your flight timing is tight and you can't afford delays. Replacement buses will run, but they won't be as fast or as predictable as the train.
  • Cyclists: The multi-use pathways running parallel to much of the Line 2 corridor are a solid alternative if the weather cooperates — Ottawa's trail network is genuinely one of the best parts of this city.
  • Car trips: Expect slightly heavier traffic on parallel roads as some transit riders opt to drive instead.

A Pattern Worth Watching

This is far from the first time Ottawa's LRT system has required planned or unplanned downtime. The system has faced significant scrutiny since its launch over reliability concerns, and while OC Transpo has worked to improve that track record, weekend maintenance windows are becoming a familiar part of life for regular O-Train riders.

For now, the June 13–14 closure is planned and announced in advance — which is genuinely better than the alternative. Mark it in your calendar, build in extra time, and check OC Transpo's social channels or website for any updates before you head out.
