One person is dead following a fiery crash in Eastern Ontario — a tragedy felt across the Ottawa region after emergency responders were called to the scene Monday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed that a driver became trapped inside their vehicle after it left the road and came to rest in a ditch in South Glengarry, a rural township east of Cornwall. The vehicle caught fire. Despite the response of emergency services, the driver did not survive.
OPP has not yet released the name of the victim or the specific cause of the crash. An investigation is underway.
Where Is South Glengarry?
South Glengarry is part of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SDG) county — a stretch of Eastern Ontario wedged between Ottawa and the Quebec border, roughly an hour's drive east of the capital along the 401 corridor. The area is served by OPP's East Region, which covers a wide expanse of rural communities between Ottawa and the Ontario-Quebec line.
