There is a version of Ottawa that only reveals itself in winter, quieter streets, softened edges, and the kind of hush that only a fresh snowfall can deliver. A recent collection of photographs shared by Ottawa Tourism captures exactly that, spotlighting two of the city's most beloved spots blanketed in white.
NCC Riverhouse in the Snow
The NCC Riverhouse, photographed by @hannahkgm, sits along the Ottawa River in a setting that feels almost impossibly peaceful in winter. The National Capital Commission property, a heritage building nestled against the riverbank, takes on a storybook quality when surrounded by snow, with the frozen river stretching out in the background.
It's the kind of view that reminds you why the NCC has worked so hard to preserve green and heritage spaces along the water. In summer it's a pleasant spot; in winter, it's genuinely stunning.
ByWard Market Under Snow

ByWard Market in winter is also one of the city's best arguments for bundling up and getting outside. The market's restaurants and cafés stay open year-round, making it easy to warm up with a bowl of soup or a hot coffee between walks.
