Pickleball has taken Canada by storm over the past few years, and Ottawa's west end is officially getting in on the action. The Westgate Pickleball Club has opened in Almonte, the first dedicated pickleball facility serving the Almonte, Kanata, and Stittsville corridor.
What's There
The club features four dedicated indoor pickleball courts, which puts it in solid territory for a purpose-built facility. Indoor courts matter more than you'd think in Ottawa: the local climate means outdoor pickleball is a seasonal activity at best, and players serious about the game want somewhere to play year-round.
The location in Almonte puts it about 45 minutes from central Ottawa, but for players in Kanata, Stittsville, and the surrounding townships, it's a much more convenient option than heading downtown.
Why Pickleball, Why Now?
If you haven't tried pickleball yet, you're in the minority among Ottawa's active adult population. The sport has exploded in popularity across Canada and the U.S. for reasons that make obvious sense: it's easy to learn, gentle on joints compared to tennis, social, and genuinely fun.
Ottawa has seen significant demand for more courts, the city's existing tennis and recreational facilities have been converted and repurposed at a rapid pace, but dedicated pickleball infrastructure has lagged behind player interest.
How to Get Involved
