Eighteen days into the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, the conflict shows no sign of abating. Al Jazeera's latest update paints a picture of a war that has moved beyond its initial phase and is now deepening on multiple fronts, militarily, regionally, and economically.

Strikes on Iranian Cities

Perhaps the most consequential knock-on effect of the war is the global energy crisis it has triggered. Iran's blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20 percent of the world's oil passes, has sent prices surging on international markets.
The effects are being felt from North American gas stations to Asian power grids, with countries scrambling to find alternative fuel sources or cut consumption. The longer the war continues, the more severe and entrenched the energy disruption becomes.
Diplomatic Paralysis
Despite the scale of the crisis, diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire or de-escalation have made little visible progress. International institutions and regional powers have called for restraint, but those calls have not translated into concrete action.
With the US deeply invested in the military operation and Iran committed to resistance, the gap between the two sides remains vast.
