Sonos Ace Headphones Drop to $299 — Here's Why Ottawa Audiophiles Should Pay Attention

Ottawa tech shoppers have a rare chance to pick up a genuinely impressive pair of noise-canceling headphones without paying full freight — the Sonos Ace are currently $100 off at Amazon, Best Buy, and Sonos' own storefront, dropping from $399 to $299 as part of Amazon's Big Spring Sale.

What Are the Sonos Ace?

The Sonos Ace are the audio brand's first foray into over-ear headphones, and by most accounts they nailed the fundamentals. The sound is detailed and full, landing comfortably alongside competitors like Bose and Apple in terms of audio quality. The transparency mode — which lets ambient sound through so you don't have to pull the headphones off to chat with someone — is widely considered one of the best available, trailing only the original AirPods Max.

Design-wise, they're built with premium materials and feature swappable ear pads, which is a nice touch for long-term ownership. If you spend hours at a desk or commuting — and plenty of Ottawa's work-from-home crowd does — that kind of comfort and repairability matters.

The Trade-offs Worth Knowing

No product is perfect. The Ace launched in 2024 during a rough stretch for Sonos — the company's app overhaul went sideways, and that controversy drowned out what was otherwise a strong debut.

The other notable limitation: the Ace don't support Wi-Fi audio streaming or multi-room grouping with Sonos' home speaker ecosystem. If you own a Sonos One or Era speaker and were hoping to sync everything wirelessly, that won't work here. They connect over Bluetooth and also support wired USB-C audio.

That said, there's one feature that makes the Ace stand out from any other headphones in this price range: TV Audio Swap. If you have a Sonos soundbar — the Arc, Beam, or Ray — you can instantly transfer your TV's audio directly to the headphones with a single button press. No fiddling with Bluetooth settings, no lag. For late-night watching when you don't want to wake anyone else in the house, it's genuinely useful.

Is $299 a Good Deal?

At $399, the Ace were priced competitively but not obviously better value than the Sony WH-1000XM6 or Bose QuietComfort Ultra. At $299, the math shifts. You're getting flagship-tier sound, a premium build, and that TV Audio Swap trick for the same price as many mid-range options.

Ottawa shoppers can grab the deal through Amazon.ca, Best Buy Canada, or directly from Sonos — all three are matching the $299 price point. It's worth confirming Canadian pricing at checkout, as sale prices can vary slightly from US listings, but the discount has been mirrored north of the border.

If you've been sitting on the fence about upgrading your headphones, this spring sale window is as good a reason as any to pull the trigger.
