About ottown

ottown is an independent city guide to Ottawa: local news, food and drink, events, real estate, arts and things to do, updated every day.

What ottown is

ottown is a local guide for people who live in, work in or visit Ottawa. We cover what is happening in the city: news from city hall and the neighbourhoods, restaurant openings, things to do this weekend, the housing market, arts and culture, local tech and sport, plus a smaller amount of national and world news for context. ottown is independent. It is not affiliated with the City of Ottawa, any level of government, or any news organization.

How stories are made

ottown stories are written from public sources: local and national news feeds, community discussions on Reddit, public posts from Ottawa accounts on Instagram, official announcements, and event listings. Each article credits the source it is based on. We follow fixed rules: use only facts that appear in the source, never invent quotes, numbers or businesses, and say where the information came from. Our editorial policy explains the process in full.

Event listings on our weekend, weekly and monthly pages come from event sources we sync throughout the day. Times, venues and prices are shown as the organizer publishes them.

The ottown Editorial Team

Articles are credited to the ottown Editorial Team, the small team that runs ottown, rather than to individual writers. The team sets our editorial rules, chooses the sources, reviews and edits what is published, and handles reader reports and corrections.

Advertising

ottown shows display ads served by Google AdSense. Businesses and organizers can reach us about promotions and partnerships through our collaborate page.

Mistakes and feedback

If something we published is wrong, we want to know. Our corrections page explains how to report an error and what happens next. For anything else, see contact.
