A Town That Opened Its Doors
Gander, Newfoundland, brought together pilots, politicians, hotel workers, bus drivers and church leaders on Thursday to reflect on their front row seat to the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
When U.S. airspace shut down that day, dozens of flights were diverted to Gander's airport, and the town's residents took in thousands of stranded passengers with little notice. The story became internationally known, later inspiring the musical Come From Away.
Remembering, Together
Thursday's gathering brought some of those same responders and survivors back together to mark the anniversary and share what the experience meant to them.
