A Massive Show of Support on Two Wheels
If you're anywhere near York Region this Sunday, don't be surprised if you hear a low rumble rolling through the streets for hours. More than 600 motorcycles are set to take part in the 18th Annual Ride for SickKids, one of the largest annual motorcycle charity rides in the Greater Toronto Area.
The fundraiser supports The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, one of Canada's most prominent pediatric hospitals and research centres. Since the ride's inaugural run back in 2009, it's grown into a beloved community tradition, raising more than $1.8 million for SickKids Foundation over the years thanks to riders, sponsors, volunteers, and supportive families.
The Route and the Details
This year's ride takes place on Sunday, August 9, 2026, kicking off and wrapping up at North Maple Regional Park in Maple, Ontario. Riders are asked to arrive starting at 8 a.m., with the full procession departing at 11 a.m. for a 150-kilometre circuit through York Region streets — all escorted by police to keep the massive group of bikers moving safely together.
Anyone who's seen one of these rides pass by knows it's a spectacle: hundreds of motorcycles in formation, engines echoing for blocks, all in support of a cause that touches families across the province.
More Than Just a Ride
Once the procession returns to North Maple Regional Park later that afternoon, the celebration continues with food, entertainment, and a Grand Prize Motorcycle Raffle. One lucky participant will walk away with a customized Harley-Davidson — a nice incentive on top of the good feeling that comes from supporting sick kids and their families.
Events like this matter beyond the GTA too. SickKids serves patients from across Ontario, including families from the Ottawa area who sometimes need to travel to Toronto for specialized pediatric care not available closer to home. Fundraisers like the Ride for SickKids help fund research, equipment, and programs that benefit kids no matter where in the province they live.
How to Get Involved
While registration deadlines for riders may have already passed by the time this publishes, spectators are welcome to catch the procession as it rolls through York Region, or head to North Maple Regional Park in the afternoon for the post-ride festivities, food, and raffle draw.
For Ontarians who can't make it out in person, the SickKids Foundation continues to accept donations year-round for families and patients who rely on the hospital's care.
