Ottawa mattress shoppers no longer have to buy sight unseen. Endy, the Canadian online sleep brand, opened its first Ottawa retail store on September 18 at Bayshore Shopping Centre, giving the capital a physical spot to try before they buy.
Why Ottawa, why now
Endy President Jason Cassidy said the city has long been on the brand's radar. "Ottawa has been a top five market for Endy for a long time, so opening our first store here felt like a natural next step," Cassidy said.
That instinct lines up with how Canadians actually shop for mattresses.
Grand opening weekend brings a hometown headliner
Endy is marking the new Bayshore location with a grand opening weekend on September 26 and 27. The highlight for local fans: an appearance by Ottawa artist and five-time Juno nominee Jamie Fine, giving the launch a distinctly local flavour rather than a generic ribbon-cutting.
Visitors to the weekend event can also take part in giveaways and pick up complimentary ice cream sandwiches from Moo Shu Ice Cream, a favourite among Ottawa's dessert lovers. That treat is limited, though: only the first 100 people each day will receive one, so early arrival is the move for anyone hoping to combine mattress shopping with a free dessert.
What it means for Ottawa shoppers
Until now, Ottawa residents curious about Endy's mattresses, pillows or bedding had to rely on online reviews and a trial period at home. A storefront at Bayshore changes that calculus, letting shoppers test firmness and feel in person before ordering, something that matters given how much of the Canadian mattress market still leans on physical stores.
For a company built almost entirely on e-commerce, opening a store in a top five market like Ottawa also signals confidence in the capital's retail spending power, at a time when many direct-to-consumer brands are experimenting with hybrid online-offline models rather than sticking to one channel exclusively.
The details
The store is open now at Bayshore Shopping Centre. The grand opening celebration runs September 26 and 27, with Jamie Fine's appearance, giveaways and the limited-run ice cream sandwiches from Moo Shu Ice Cream drawing the biggest crowds. Anyone planning to attend for the free treat should plan to show up early in the day, given the 100-person daily cap.
