Ottawa Fire Services' water-rescue team was dispatched to Britannia Bay on Sept. 5 after multiple 911 calls came in reporting a person in the river yelling for help. According to the fire service, the calls came in just before 5 p.m. Firefighters arrived quickly at Cassels Street to find a local resident struggling to get back to shore after falling off a jet ski.
The water-rescue crew got to work pulling the person from the river, an operation that requires specialized training given the currents and conditions found in that stretch of the Ottawa River.
