Ottawa's kizomba community has a new spotlight thanks to a short documentary from CBC Ottawa's Creator Network.
The film follows Elvis Amisi, who fled violence in Congo and found kizomba, a partner dance style with roots in Angola, after settling in Ottawa. Over the past decade, Amisi has worked to grow the city's kizomba scene, teaching and connecting dancers across the region.
A Student Turned Filmmaker
The documentary was made by Christian Kalambay, who was once Amisi's student before picking up a camera to tell his teacher's story.
The project highlights how dance has become a bridge for connection in Ottawa, linking people from different backgrounds through a shared rhythm on the floor.
