Ottawa's rural south end is mourning after a fatal motorcycle crash in Osgoode Friday evening left one person dead and another critically injured.
What happened
The crash happened just before 5:45 p.m. on Friday, September 18, at the intersection near Cabin and Blanchfield roads, just east of Stagecoach Road in Osgoode. A motorcycle and a second vehicle collided, and the second vehicle came to rest on its roof.
A spokesperson for the Ottawa Paramedic Service confirmed that a man in his 40s, believed to be the motorcycle rider, was declared dead at the scene. A woman in her 60s, who was in the second vehicle, was critically injured in the crash.
The rescue
Ottawa Fire Services crews worked to free the woman from the overturned vehicle after the crash. Extricating her from the wreckage took only a few minutes, according to details from the scene, before she could be rushed for treatment of her critical injuries.
An Osgoode community shaken again
Osgoode is a quiet, largely rural community on Ottawa's southern edge, built around farmland and country roads like Cabin, Blanchfield and Stagecoach. For residents there, a crash this serious at a rural intersection is the kind of news that travels fast, especially in a community where many people know each other and use these same roads daily to get into the city or out to their properties.
