A fatal crash west of Ottawa
Ottawa residents who travel the Highway 17 corridor toward the Ottawa Valley are being reminded of the risks of rural highway driving after a fatal crash claimed the life of a 62-year-old man early Tuesday. The Ontario Provincial Police say the single-vehicle collision happened in Whitewater Region, a township near Pembroke that sits roughly 150 kilometres northwest of downtown Ottawa.
According to the OPP, the driver's vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The man was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. Police have not released further details about the exact time, location or circumstances of the crash, and an investigation remains ongoing.
