AI Hype Meets Job Anxiety

Canadian bank CEOs have been talking up artificial intelligence at every turn, but a new study from Toronto Metropolitan University suggests the technology's reach into the financial sector is bigger than most workers realize. The research found that 98 per cent of financial sector workers are highly exposed to AI technologies, a number that raises obvious questions about what happens to those jobs next.

Not Every Bank Is Cutting Staff

Despite the exposure numbers, the picture isn't uniformly bleak. At least one Canadian bank has said it actually expects its human headcount to rise, suggesting AI adoption won't automatically translate into mass layoffs across the industry. How that plays out sector-wide remains to be seen.
