A children's character turned menacing
A teenage girl was chased in West Kelowna, B.C. by someone dressed as the Cat in the Hat, a character from the Dr. Seuss books now twisted into an online trend that reimagines it as something sinister. The incident appears to be a copycat of that trend, which has been spreading on social media.
Police are watching
Police in some jurisdictions have already warned that pranks built around the trend can cross into real intimidation and carry offline consequences, including criminal charges. Parents and teens are being urged not to dismiss it as just a costume.
