Not everyone can get out to a cottage this summer, but according to a recent post from @ottawalist, you don't really need to. The Instagram account laid out a full-day itinerary for cottage-style relaxation using spots that are all within the capital region, no highway drive required.
Start on two wheels
The day kicks off with a bike rental from Maison du Velo, with rates starting at $15 a day for kids' bikes, $20 for adults, and $25 if you're feeling social and want to split a tandem. From there, it's an easy ride to the water.
Swim and sunbathe by the museum
The Canadian Museum of History dock is the first stop for lounging. It's a popular, low-key spot to swim and sunbathe, and life vests are available to borrow if you didn't pack your own.
A patio lunch worth lingering over
Next up is Maison Charron, which the post calls one of the region's most beautiful patios. Menu highlights include the Limonade de Baies and Mule à La Fraise mocktails at $8.50 each, plus the Fungi and Enzo pizzas running $24 to $25.
Marina views and a boat tour
From lunch, the route heads to Hull Marina for sightseeing, photos, or hopping aboard a boat tour if the timing works out.
Ice cream and one more swim
The East Wharf Dock is the next stop, pairing a swim with Shaw's ice cream. The post singles out the Chocolate Peanut Butter and Grammy's Cupboard flavours as worth trying.
Golden hour at Kiweki Point
The day wraps at Kiweki Point, which delivers panoramic views over the Ottawa River and Parliament Hill. It's flagged as a prime sunset spot, a fitting way to close out a day that felt like a cottage escape without the drive.
Most of these locations fall under the National Capital Commission's watch, so it's worth checking ncc-ccn.gc.ca for hours, access points and any seasonal notices before heading out.
