Council Votes for Safer Streets

Ottawa city council has approved a plan to make Gladstone Avenue safer for cyclists, three years after a collision involving a dump truck left a cyclist seriously injured there.

What's Changing

The plan removes the truck route designation from Gladstone Avenue and adds bike lanes along the corridor. Nearby, Gilmour Street is also getting its own new bike lane.

Ottawa Angle

The changes reflect ongoing pressure on the city to improve cycling safety on routes that mix heavy vehicles with bike traffic, an issue that has drawn attention across Ottawa's downtown core in recent years.

No timeline for construction has been announced.
