Ottawa-area commuters who use Highway 7 have a new hazard to watch for: loose cows. The Ontario Provincial Police say there have been several near misses after cattle got free and wandered near the highway, and officers are urging drivers to slow down and stay alert in the area.
What Happened
OPP have not released further specifics on where the cows came from or exactly how many are loose, but say the animals wandering close to traffic lanes have already led to multiple close calls with vehicles.
Why It Matters for Ottawa Drivers
Highway 7 is a key route for Ottawa residents travelling toward Renfrew County, the Ottawa Valley, and beyond, so unexpected livestock on or near the road poses a real risk during evening and early-morning drives when visibility is lower.
Drivers are advised to reduce speed and watch for animals near the shoulder until the cows are safely rounded up.
