Ottawa police have launched a joint investigation with Quebec authorities into two suspicious deaths involving Ottawa residents, one in the city's Lowertown neighbourhood and the other on a highway in western Quebec.
What Happened
The first death was discovered Saturday when a person was found dead inside a home in Lowertown, one of Ottawa's oldest and most tightly packed residential neighbourhoods just east of the downtown core. Police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
Around the same time, a second Ottawa resident died in a crash on Highway 50 near Montebello, Quebec — a stretch of highway that runs along the Ottawa River and is a common route for commuters and travellers moving between the National Capital Region and western Quebec.
Given that both people who died were Ottawa residents, investigators from the Ottawa Police Service and their Quebec counterparts are working together to determine whether the two incidents are connected. Police have described the deaths as suspicious, though they have not confirmed a direct link between the Lowertown case and the Highway 50 crash.
