Zero Gravity, Ottawa Style

Ottawa's National Research Council (NRC) put a batch of student-designed science experiments through their paces in zero gravity aboard its Falcon 20 research jet. CBC Ottawa's Stu Mills joined students from universities across Canada for the flight, which used parabolic maneuvers to briefly simulate weightlessness so the experiments could be tested outside normal gravity conditions.

Why It Matters Locally

The NRC, headquartered in Ottawa, regularly opens its research aircraft to student teams looking to test experiments meant for eventual use in space or other extreme environments. It's a reminder that some of the country's aerospace research infrastructure is based right here in the capital.
