Ottawa residents looking for a free way to spend a September Saturday should mark down September 12, when the National Capital Commission throws open its doors for Open NCC.
As @ncc_ccn shared on Instagram, the event is a chance to go behind the scenes at NCC sites across Ottawa and Gatineau, meet the people behind the work, and learn more about the projects that shape Canada's Capital Region. In the account's words, it's your chance to "go behind the scenes" and "discover something new along the way."
What's happening, and where
Open NCC runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with Confederation Park serving as the main event hub. From there, activity spreads across several notable spots in the region, including:
- East Wharf Recreational Dock
- Sussex Courtyards
- Thunderhead, the 2SLGBTQI+ National Monument
- NCC River House
- Hull Marina
- Gatineau Park Visitor Centre
- NCC bistros and animated patios
At each location, visitors can expect guided tours, presentations, hands-on activities, information kiosks, entertainment, and opportunities to chat directly with NCC staff about the work happening across the Capital.
