Stutzle strikes twice early

Tim Stutzle got Ottawa on the board short-handed at 7:39 of the first period, with an assist from Michael Amadio. He scored again at 9:22, and the Senators had a lead they would not give back.

Stutzle finished with two goals and an assist, a three-point night. Asked about the performance, he pointed to the group rather than himself: "All four lines, every single D, we played together as a group, fought for each other."

Batherson and Amadio extend the lead

Drake Batherson made it 3-0 just 1:06 into the second period, with Stutzle collecting the assist. Amadio then made it 4-0 at 5:19, assisted by Shane Pinto.

Boston did get one past the Senators in the end, but the Bruins never threatened the lead. They also went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Ottawa's first goal came while a man down.

Ullmark and Ersson share the net

Linus Ullmark made 10 saves through two periods before leaving the game. He was removed as a precaution after a late-period collision, and the sources do not say more about his condition. Samuel Ersson took over and made 8 saves in his Senators debut. At the other end, Jeremy Swayman stopped 20 shots for the Bruins.

What it means for Ottawa

The result leaves the Senators at 2-0-0, while the Bruins sit at 2-2-0. It is a good early signal for a team that opened its 2026-27 season with a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, thanks to a third-period winner from Stephen Halliday. You can read more in ottown's earlier report.

That opener also came with a worry. Defenceman Jake Sanderson left Saturday's game in Toronto after only 4:29 of ice time. He was sent back to Ottawa on Sunday for further testing and is expected to miss the rest of the team's season-opening road trip, as we reported in ottown's earlier report. The Senators won in Boston without him.

What's next

The Senators are back home on Tuesday, when they host Detroit. Fans heading out will want to keep an eye on the goaltending situation, since Ullmark's status after the collision has not been detailed, and on any update about Sanderson.
