Why September sunsets hit different in Ottawa
There's something about early September in Ottawa. The humidity of summer breaks, the light gets softer, and the sun starts setting earlier, which means more of us are actually awake and outside to catch it. Add in the Ottawa River, the canal, and the city's mix of open sightlines and tree-lined streets, and you've got a setup built for good sunset watching.
Where to catch your own view
If that photo has you wanting to see it in person, Ottawa has no shortage of spots. Nepean Point behind the National Gallery offers a wide-open view over the river toward Gatineau. Remic Rapids Park along the Ottawa River Pathway is another local favourite, especially with the rock balancing sculptures as a foreground. Closer to downtown, the Alexandra Bridge and the Rideau Canal near Dow's Lake both offer reliable golden-hour views without much of a trek.
A season worth savouring
Whether you're chasing the exact scene from the post or just making a habit of stepping outside around dusk, September is one of the better months to do it in Ottawa. The bugs are gone, the crowds have thinned, and the sky is doing most of the work for you.
