Ottawa mayor Mark Sutcliffe says that if he's re-elected, he'll give Ottawa residents at least 48 hours to register their children for swimming lessons before non-residents can start signing up.

Other candidates in the mayoral race say they back that plan too, but argue the bigger fix is that Ottawa simply needs more pools.

Fuller details, including how the 48-hour window would be enforced or when it might take effect, haven't been independently confirmed yet.

Earlier this month

Sutcliffe has been rolling out a series of re-election pledges, including a housing plan promising 75,000 new homes and a platform for Ottawa's francophone community.
