What happened

Ottawa police say a teen driver has been charged with stunt driving after his vehicle was caught doing 117 km/h in a 60 km/h school zone on Innes Road. Police say the vehicle was observed racing alongside another car on Wednesday.

Ottawa angle

Innes Road runs through busy Ottawa neighbourhoods in the east end, including stretches near schools where the 60 km/h limit is meant to protect kids walking or biking to class. Nearly doubling that speed in a marked school zone is exactly the kind of driving Ottawa police have been cracking down on under Ontario's stunt driving laws, which carry an automatic licence suspension and vehicle impoundment.

No further details on the second driver or any charges against them have been released.
