ottown's research note: Confirmed Eric Smith is a certified candidate for City Councillor, Ward 12 Rideau-Vanier, in Ottawa's October 26, 2026 municipal election (name appears in CBC, CTV, and Yahoo News Canada election-preview coverage of the race). However, only one source (Yahoo News Canada) could actually be fetched and quoted: 'Eric Smith, Brian Paquette and Michael Karl Sewanaku, who each registered days before the Aug. 21 deadline and have yet to establish a campaign website.' The CBC article covering the same story returned HTTP 403 on fetch, the CTV candidate-profile page and the City of Ottawa certified-candidates page returned no retrievable body text (JS-rendered/blocked), so no second independently-quotable source could be obtained to back this or any other claim. No campaign website, social media account, prior public role, stated priorities, or endorsements could be found for this candidate. Per the two-independent-source rule, no facts are reported.
