It was one of several residential projects to move forward at committee.
The St. Laurent tower
The tower would rise on a site covering 1052, 1060 and 1064 St. Laurent Blvd. The property's owner is Stan Bernard Automotive Ltd.
The proposal calls for a total of 401 residential units, ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments. Below ground, a three-level underground parking garage would contain 231 parking spaces.
The report does not say when construction could begin, and it does not give the committee's vote count. Those details have not been announced in the material available to us, so we are not guessing at them.
Two smaller apartment buildings
The committee also signed off on two mid-sized apartment projects. The first is a six-storey, 26-unit apartment building at 342 Roosevelt Ave.
The second is on Baseline Road, where the committee approved a proposal for a five-storey mid-rise apartment building with 40 units.
Together with the St. Laurent tower, that adds up to 467 new apartments among the three approved projects: 401 at St. Laurent, 26 on Roosevelt Avenue and 40 on Baseline Road.
Stittsville's Hazeldean Road site
The Ottawa Business Journal's report also points to a proposal further west. Developer Regional Group is proposing to build 347 new homes on a Hazeldean Road site in Stittsville. The report as summarized here does not say that proposal has been approved, so it should be read as a plan under discussion rather than a decision.
Hazeldean Road has been in the news for other reasons recently. ottown reported in September on a collision on Hazeldean Rd that critically injured an 83-year-old woman, which is a separate matter from the housing proposal.
A separate St. Laurent story
The St. Laurent name also comes up in transit coverage, although the two stories are separate. ottown has reported that the city is looking at a multi-week LRT shutdown for a St-Laurent Station overhaul, with that work not expected to begin until summer 2028. The tower approval is not connected to that plan in anything we have seen.
What it means for residents
The Roosevelt Avenue and Baseline Road buildings add smaller-scale rental or condo options, though the report does not say whether the units will be rentals or for sale.
What happens next for each project, including any further approvals or timelines, has not been announced in the facts we have.
