Ottawa's nightlife scene is about to get a new addition, but this one isn't for the usual crowd. R3WIND Ottawa says it's launching the city's first ever teen club, giving 14 to 19 year olds a place to experience the energy of a night out without alcohol in the mix.

The concept was shared in a post by local Instagram account @shottawa.tv, which covers Ottawa happenings, spotlighting R3WIND's debut event, PROJECT X.

What to Expect

PROJECT X goes down Saturday, October 3, running from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 1877 Merivale Road. According to the post, tickets are $20 for standard admission and $40 for VIP, available at the door.

The organizers say the goal is to recreate that nightclub atmosphere, music, lights, a crowd, minus the substances typically associated with adult nightlife. Per the post, security will be on site for the duration of the event, and a list of items won't be permitted inside, including weapons, cigarettes, vapes, weed, or alcohol. Organizers also say there will be a dedicated parking area along with a specific drop-off and pickup zone, which should offer some peace of mind for parents shuttling teens to and from the venue.

For a lot of Ottawa teenagers, options for a proper night out are pretty limited once they're past the age of school dances but still years from being able to get into bars and licensed venues. A supervised, alcohol-free space aimed specifically at that age group is a fairly novel idea for the city, and it taps into a broader trend of "sober" or substance-free social spaces popping up in cities across Canada.

Whether PROJECT X turns into a regular fixture on the Ottawa events calendar or stays a one-off will likely depend on turnout this weekend. Photography credits for the promotional material go to RN_Capture_Co and Emile Da Traveller, according to the original post.

Parents and teens interested in attending can find more details through R3WIND Ottawa's own channels, with tickets available at the door on the night of the event.
