A machine promising to teleport people, cars, pets and packages has turned up in Ottawa's west end, and nobody seems sure what it actually does.

According to a reel from @shottawa.tv posted on October 6, a full kiosk labelled TELEPORTER has been spotted around Greenbank Road and Iris Street, near IKEA. The account says its touchscreen lists "teleports" to destinations around the world.

A strange encounter in the summer

The kiosk is not the first oddity tied to the area. @shottawa.tv says that back in the summer, an Ottawa resident reported a bizarre encounter around Greenbank. A stranger reportedly approached them and offered to "teleport" their vehicle anywhere in Canada for $40.

That was roughly two months ago. The account links the two sightings, though nothing in the post confirms they are connected.

What the machine claims

The post says the kiosk appears to be connected to TELI, also called Teleporter World, which makes claims about "quantum teleportation."

Here is where the story stays firmly grounded. As @shottawa.tv notes, there is no credible evidence that people, cars or other physical objects can be teleported using this service. What customers actually receive when they use the machine is unclear.

What we know, and what we don't

The details available so far come from a single social media post, and ottown has not independently verified them. Open questions include:

  • Who operates the kiosk, and who owns the location where it is set up
  • What a customer pays and what they get in return
  • Whether the stranger's summer offer and the kiosk are linked

If you plan to try it, treat it with the same caution as any machine that asks for your money or personal details. A touchscreen that lists destinations around the world is not proof that a service delivers anything.
